San Diego Once in a Lifetime Experience
When: September 14th and 15th, 2024
San Diego is home to some of the most incredible succulent gardens in California. Brian (Curator) and Walker (Assistant Curator) will lead a group of 20 lucky individuals on Saturday through the private gardens of San Diego’s prestigious Agave and Aloe hybridizers, Kelly Griffin and Jeremy Spath. Kelly has become internationally known for his hybridizing and is responsible for many succulent hybrids now in the trade, including Aloes, Agaves and Echeverias. Ever heard of the Christmas Sleigh or Pink Blush Aloe? how about the Blue Glow or Crème Brulee Agave? We have Kelly to thank for these! Jeremy, owner of Hidden Agave Nursery, has traveled the world to learn all he can about Agaves and other plants which he now hybridizes, he even owns his own tissue culture lab!
In addition to experiencing these two stunning gardens you will visit Rancho Soledad Nurseries (where both Kelly and Jeremy used to work) to see the hill planted by Kelly, with an outstanding assortment of choice plants selected by Kelly from seed batches he grew over the years.
Sunday will entail a half-day adventure to a local public garden before you will be set free to enjoy the beauty of San Diego as you please. *Specific details will be provided closer to September.
Adventurers will travel to San Diego on their own and it is suggested to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel (located in the Gaslamp District).
Trip purchase price of $600 to include transportation on Saturday and for the half-day Sunday excursions, the guided expertise of RBG’s horticulturists Brian Kemble and Walker Young, lunch and refreshments on Saturday the 14th.
