An abstract form in highly polished black springstone — hollow at the center, the negative space as expressive as the stone itself. Mukomberanwa captures birds not as specimens but as presences: the sense of watching, waiting, of something about to take flight. The title suggests rain is coming. The sculpture feels like the moment just before.

About the Artist

Nesbert Mukomberanwa was born in 1969 in Buhera, Zimbabwe, and trained under his uncle Nicholas Mukomberanwa, one of the great figures of the first generation of Zimbabwean sculptors. He established his own workshop in Chitungwiza in 1989 and has since exhibited in the Netherlands, the UK, the United States, and Belgium. The British Museum holds examples of his work in its permanent collection.
