The polished black springstone gives the figure weight and permanence, as if this small morning ritual deserves to last.
About the Artist
Melody Fombe is one of the longest-serving artists at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre, where his sculpture and mentorship have shaped generations of younger artists. A skilled mbira musician as well as sculptor, he sees both art forms as expressions of Shona cultural heritage. His work has been exhibited at the SFO Museum and Fresno Art Museum, among others.
