Two figures folded into one another in deep green serpentine — a stone whose mottled, living surface seems to breathe. The embrace is total: arms wrapped, faces close, the boundary between two bodies dissolved by tenderness. Fombe carves connection the way it actually feels: indistinguishable from the self.
About the Artist
Melody Fombe is one of the longest-serving artists at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre, where his sculpture and mentorship have shaped generations of younger artists. A skilled mbira musician as well as sculptor, he sees both art forms as expressions of Shona cultural heritage. His work has been exhibited at the SFO Museum and Fresno Art Museum, among others.
