In the Years to Come

Looking ahead, Brian is committed to ensuring the preservation of Ruth’s vision while embracing the Garden’s expanding educational role. To safeguard the Garden’s legacy, Brian has also worked diligently to mentor his successor, Assistant Curator/Garden Manager Walker Young, and to codify Ruth’s design philosophy. Brian hopes his legacy will be defined by his contributions to plant knowledge and the continued flourishing of the Ruth Bancroft Garden.

Brian Kemble’s oral history, now formally documented, stands as a vital record of his 45-year stewardship at the Ruth Bancroft Garden. Just as Ruth Bancroft’s oral history captured the spirit of the Garden’s inception, Brian’s account ensures that his invaluable knowledge, experience, and passion will guide the Garden’s future. His legacy—rooted in a shared vision with Ruth, enriched by decades of hands-on experience, and fueled by a relentless pursuit of horticultural discovery will continue to shape the garden for generations to come.

We hope you have enjoyed these excerpts and will read the full oral history transcript in the year to come.
