(Workshop) Nature Journaling

Saturday, October 29, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

$60.00 – $70.00

Nature journaling is the act of putting pen (or pencil) to paper to observe aspects of nature with curiosity and attention. In this in-person workshop you’ll learn about establishing (or enhancing) your nature journaling practice. This is about visually expressing curiosity, not about making detailed botanical art.

After a classroom presentation and practice activities led by Kate Rutter and MJ Broadbent, you will spend hands-on drawing time “in the field” using words, pictures, and numbers to document the form, shape, and textures of the rich botanical collection of the Garden. You will practice foundational techniques such as basic sketching, annotation, and observations that prompt both deeper questions and deeper connections to the natural world around us. You will have an opportunity to have 1:1 time with the instructors during the time in the Garden. The group will reconvene toward the close of the workshop to share our work, talk about our experience, and learn from each other.

All materials will be provided; a starter kit is included with the registration fee, which is yours to take home. All skill levels welcome; no prior experience necessary.
