Learn the Japanese art of flower arranging, or ikebana, in this hands-on workshop. Following a demonstration by instructor Pia Horei Groth, participants will explore versatile techniques for creating elegant, architectural arrangements. The session will focus specifically on creating a Moribana upright style arrangement. Each student will be provided with plant materials, a suiban (low-vase), and a kenzan (pin-frog) to work with. You are welcome to bring your own clippers, but we will also have some available.
This workshop is presented in conjunction with the ArtScapes in the Garden exhibition, created by Sogetsu San Francisco. The Garden and Great Room will be featuring floral installations Thursday, March 26th, through Sunday, March 29th (during open hours).
We will also be offering a workshop for children – Introduction to Ikebana for Youth on Sunday, March 29th, from 10:00am-11:00am. At 12:30pm we will also be offering an additional drop-in demonstration with Sharon Suimei Doi from the Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch (no tickets are necessary).
