Local author and founding member of The Ruth Bancroft Garden, Geraldine Pember, will be signing her recently published book, Creating Beauty at the Garden in the Coit Visitor and Education Center. Creating Beauty is a legacy of creativity handed down from Pember to young women entrepreneurs for whom aesthetics are integral to their business. As she says herself in the introduction to the book, “When I meet someone new, I think, ‘Why are you here now? What can you teach me? What can I give of myself to you?’… I want all who read this book to realize your own singular ability to bring forth beauty from the earth of your creativity. Know that your story is worth telling, too.” At 93 and counting, Geraldine tells the story of a life fully lived on two continents. Come meet one of the people who helped put Walnut Creek on the map while raising a family and owning and operating her own cottage industry, Geraldine’s Floral Designs.
