Join us for a Special Evening Honoring Brian Kemble and his Remarkable 45-year Tenure Stewarding the Ruth Bancroft Garden.
Featuring a conversation between Brian Kemble and Dick Turner (Ruth Bancroft Garden’s first Executive Director)

- Brian’s personal stories of meeting and working with Ruth
- How he’s seen the Garden transform over the decades
- How he created some of his most prized hybrids
- His adventures traveling to see plants in habitat
- His reflections on the essential role botanical gardens play in conservation and education as well as
- Reflection on what he wants his enduring legacy to be
As part of marking Brian’s 45 years at the Garden, we’ve also recorded his oral history—a continuation of Ruth Bancroft’s own oral history documenting the Garden’s genesis. We’re excited to share excerpts of Brian’s stories on our website, preserving these invaluable memories for future generations.
Following the presentation and conversation, guests are invited to stay for a reception with beverages and light fare, offering a chance to raise a glass to Brian’s incredible legacy.
All ticket sales will help fund one of Brian’s top priorities: the renovation of Bed 12.
Although Bed 12 now sits at the back of the Garden, this was the first bed Ruth would see when she entered the Garden from her home. If you’d like to further support the bed renovation (beyond a ticket purchase), we appreciate additional donations to the Bed 12 fund.
Come celebrate a career devoted to plants, discovery, and the enduring spirit of the Ruth Bancroft Garden!
