The Ruth Bancroft Garden is well-known for its large Agave collection, and most of them flower in the summer. The largest ones have flower stalks the size of a telephone pole, but there are small species as well. Though yellow is the most common flower color, we have species whose flowers are purple, white or green, as well as ones with red buds that change to yellow as the flowers open. This year, we are especially pleased to have the rare Agave pintilla (named in 2011) coming into flower. Join us for a special garden walk with Brian K., world-renown agave expert and long-time Curator, to see the flowering agaves, learn about their special features and where each one comes from.
After the tour, participants will receive a seed-grown Agave striata to take home.
