The Ruth Bancroft Garden, Contra Costa Water District and East Bay Municipal Utility District have partnered to offer you the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of 16 gardens in Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Moraga and Lafayette that showcase the beauty and diversity that waterwise gardens can offer homeowners.

A waterwise landscape doesn’t just mean “cactus” if that’s not your style.  There are many other options for climate-appropriate plants that will make your garden beautiful while simultaneously helping conserve water and offering natural food sources for butterflies, bees and other local pollinators.  This self-guided tour will let you see lawn-to-garden conversion projects up close and talk to the homeowners about the process, their plant choices, and overall experiences.

The tour will be on April 29th, 2023 (Saturday) from 9am – 4pm (with a lunch break from 12-1pm).

Space is limited and registration is required.  After registration, expect an email on 28 April 2023 (Friday) morning for details about the self-guided tour, including the addresses.

Registrants will receive a link to an address list and map on April 28th, 2023 (Friday) morning. All gardens are within an 11-mile radius of the Ruth Bancroft Garden. Participants provide their own transportation and explore each garden at their own pace during the registered time slot. This event will take place rain or shine.

If you wish to visit the Ruth Bancroft Garden before/after the Waterwise Garden Tour, please note that you also have to pay an additional entrance fee.  Stop by the admission kiosk to pay the admission fee; more info can be found here.
