Assistant Kiosk Manager – Full time

This is a full-time position with hours: Tuesday – Saturday 8:30am-4:30pm

Reports to:  Nursery General Manager

Classification:  Non-exempt

Compensation: $23 an hour

 

The Ruth Bancroft Garden, a public garden and a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, is a nationally significant collection and display of drought tolerant plants from arid regions of the world which Ruth Bancroft found can thrive in the inland coastal region of California.

 

Job Function

 

Assistant Kiosk manager will man and run the Kiosk, which serves as the main entrance for the garden and nursery. The Assistant Kiosk Manager is responsible for co-managing kiosk & nursery personnel alongside the Nursery Assistant Manager. The key focus of this team is driving membership sales and delivering an exceptional customer experience.  This team may also include parking staff during high volume seasons. This team is responsible for all on site sales including plants, merchandise, memberships, and admissions. They are responsible for an operation which generates a significant portion of the Garden’s annual budget.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage and support daily sales from the nursery, garden admissions and memberships:
    1. Greet all customers as they enter the plaza area. Answer customer questions regarding: the garden, admissions, memberships, nursery, sales, events, website, and other services we provide.
    2. Prepared to problem solve and resolve any sales or membership issues that arise.
    3. Generate membership sales by selling the many values and benefits; be well versed with our membership options
    4. Wiling to collaborate and create new membership promotions with Nursery manager and marketing staff
    5. Extensive knowledge of the POS system.
    6. Assist with organizing of merchandise areas
    7. Stock items inside of kiosk including brochures, hats, shirts, and more.
    8. Work closely with Inventory Manager to ensure proper levels of merchandise
    9. Assist with opening and closing the Garden. The Garden is open to the public from 9-4 Tuesday through Sunday.
    10. Stay up to date and update kiosk staff of garden events, workshops, classes, and services offered.
    11. Build sustainable relationships and trust with customers through open and interactive communication.
  2. Follow procedures, guidelines and policies outlined by the Garden and Nursery
  3. Support and promote Major Promotions/Events
  4. Work RBG major events

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

  • Ideal candidate must be a great salesperson. Friendly, outgoing, with at least a year working in retail. They must be able to persuade sales, such as a membership, while maintaining excellent sale and customer service skills.
  • A light knowledge of the plants featured in the Garden and in the sales area is preferred. Must be able to learn about the Gardens history, collection, and answer in-depth questions for the public.
  • Ability to multi-task in Kiosk, selling memberships and nursery sales, prioritizing customer is always first.
  • Customer oriented and the ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters.
  • Must be able to take direction and work independently.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
